PIPO MISSIONS, INC.
Positive Image Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc., expanded medical care outside of the USA in 2000! Our Non-Profit 501(c)3 Charitable Arm- PIPO Missions Inc./ Limbs and Braces to Mexico partners with several Hospitals/ Clinics in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and Chiapas, Mexico to provide indigent patients (much of the population) with no charge Artificial Limb and Orthopedic Brace Care. Our first trip to Mexico was in November 2000. As of August, 2008, we have held 41 "clinics", provided Prosthetic and Orthotic treatment to over 420 people and provided clothing, corrective surgery, medicine and medical supplies, Bibles, food donations, and other materials to over 1200 people and have assisted over 400 families.
We collect pre-owned, donated limbs and braces in our Savannah and Beaufort offices and thanks to generous donors, consistently have a storage unit (in Savannah) full of these braces and limbs ready for refurbishment, repair and replacement. We then "customize" and fabricate new limbs and braces utilizing some of these components for in-need patients living in the surrounding communities and villages in Southeast Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and Chiapas region.
In the book of Matthew in the Bible, Jesus said "For I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me...I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these, my brothers, you did for me."
We travel to these villages and surrounding areas each 8-10 weeks providing no-charge "gratis" clinics. Thanks to a young couple in Savannah, Georgia, in 2002, PIPO Missions recieved a 1986 Ford F150 Pickup truck, however, now due to the age of the truck and current Mexican government restrictions, we are unable to continue use of this truck. We are dire need of dependable, newer transportation necessary to reach those in need of orthotic and/ or prosthetic care in the outlying villages. We now have to borrow or rent a vehicle to go to these villages and treat the patients for their medical needs. We are seeking a donor in order to help us fill this need. It would cost us $5,000 plus fees to purchase a dependable air-conditioned vehicle in Mexico.
Our next trip is scheduled for Sept. 26-29, 2008. |
